GRANTS

Grants Programmes

Since its formation, the National Churches Trust has supported a wide variety of projects, and we will consider applications from places of worship across the UK.  We try to help a number of projects each year, by offering grants towards the cost of major projects.  Whether through repairing a roof or helping to install an accessible toilet, our grants help people to continue to serve and to better serve their local communities.  Funding is a very important issue for those caring for places of worship.  Most people are unaware that the running costs and repair bills for places of worship are not paid for by denominational bodies, church authorities or the state.  Paying a large repair bill or introducing basic facilities (such as toilets, a kitchen or even running water) is a challenge, especially as those who care for these public buildings are usually volunteers.  Since 2007 we have given over £7 million towards vital projects at places of worship across the UK.

....................................................................................................

Our ability to give grants depends on the income we receive, and the amount of money we have available each year varies. We rely on the help of our Friends and a number of trusts and foundations. Sadly, we are not able to help every important project that comes to us. If you are able to help us to continue to support places of worship please join us as a Friend, make a donation to the Trust or consider us in your will.

Repair Grants

Our repair grants help Christian places of worship to become wind and watertight. We concentrate on the most urgent structural repairs with estimated costs of at least £50,000.  Roofs and gutters take priority, enabling places of worship to be well maintained and to stay open and accessible.

Community Grants

In 2012-2013 the Trust is administering a grant on behalf of the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to support these kind of projects.  As a result we particularly welcome applications for funding from listed places of worship not in the care of the Church of England, and will be in a position to claim a grant by March 2013.

Partnership Grants

We work with local churches trusts in targeting grants of £2,500 to £10,000 for urgent repair projects with estimated costs of less than £50,000. We aim to increase the grant giving capacity of the national network of independent local churches trusts and to benefit from their local knowledge and expertise. Applications for these grants should be made direct to the local churches trusts.

WREN Heritage Fund

The Waste Recycling Environmental (WREN) Heritage Fund offers grants for urgent, structural repair projects at listed places of worship within 10 miles of an active registered landfill site in a county where Waste Recycling Group (WRG) Ltd operates.  We are one of four key national partners who offer recommendations to WREN for grants from the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF).
