Supporting You - Community Engagement

Extended Use

Some extended use will require adapting the space within your building but will be essential in maximising the potential of the building. Certain adaptations like a cafĂ© or post office will require the installation of specific facilities. Any possible reorderings of the internal layout of your place of worship is likely to require approval from a national body, either your own denominational body or, and in many cases including, the national body responsible for listed buildings. You can find contact details and web resources for each of these through In Your Area

There is a significant quantity of information available that deals with community use and highlights best practice in developing your building. Although this advice will be packaged for a specific denomination the vast majority of advice is widely applicable. The Church in Wales publish clear and concise guidance on community use, there is specific guidance for hosting a post office, and the Church of England’s Churchcare website has extensive advice and guidance on how and what can be achieved when developing the community uses of your building.
