Churches are good for our health

Our new House of Good: Health research shows that churches in the UK are providing essential services that would relieve the NHS of costs of £8.4 billion every year. But church buildings are dangerously underfunded, with many falling into disrepair and facing closure.

Every Church Counts – our plan to save churches

The UK has some of the most historic and beautiful churches, chapels and meeting houses to be found anywhere in the world. But many are at risk of closing for good if urgent action is not taken. You can help us be here for every church – and the people and communities who rely on them.

Church of the Week

Church of the Week

Stonehaven, Grampian

Built in the late 19th century, St James the Great was built to accommodate 500 people in the pretty seaside town of Stonehaven. The church is built in a Norman style, with a historic Wadsworth organ built by John Wardle and stained glass by Ninian Comper. Stonehaven St James the Great was our Winner for Scotland in the Volunteers category of our 2023 National Church Awards. The church hosts members of a local learning disabilities charity, Inspire, who created and maintain a vegetable and flower garden, as well as hosting drop ins and warm spaces for refugees and other members of the local community.
