St George’s is one of only two churches in England designed by FC Eden, an authority on Italian art and architecture.

One of two built locally by John Dickinson, the papermaker, in 1849, the other is St Mary's only a mile or so away in Apsley.

The first thing the visitor sees at Holy Trinity is unusual: a 13th century west porch, properly called a galilee that stands in front of the west tower.
