St Margaret's has stood in Barking since 1215.

This church was consecrated by the Bishop of London on St Luke’s Day, 18th October 1824 and was built because the original parish church (now known as Chelsea Old Church) was regarded as too small for the increasing population.

Like Oare, the church is built in neo Romanesque style, this time by Ferrey in 1844.

St Paul’s church, Ashford Hill is an elegant Victorian gothic church with a spire whose foundations were laid in October 1844.
