The core of the church is medieval, although a fire in 1669 and Victorian alterations have shaped the modern building.

At the end of the 20th century, a community area was installed in the back 1/3 of the nave to provide a multi use space with modern kitchen facilities, and in the 21st century the majority of the pews were removed.

There is still much of the traditional architecture and atmosphere available however, with plenty of Victorian stained glass, a striking high altar and sanctuary, and intriguing memorials to influential clergy and benefactors.
