St Mary's dates from around 1250 and has stood at the heart of the village of Tattingstone south of Ipswich in Suffolk and not far from the Essex border.
A 12th century church, located down a leafy lane, a short journey from the centre of the village and just 5 miles from the heart of Constable Country.
Bentley, Suffolk
The church has history dating back to the Normans as can be seen in an original stain glass window located in the chancel. The nave south door includes 12th century chevron voussoirs in the inner door arch. The nave has a mediaeval hammer beam roof and a moulded rood beam at the east end. In the north aisle is a medieval bench, poppy heads and carvings at each end. The tower is 15th century and houses one bell hung in 1696 and made by Charles Newman. The church is set within an attractive, well kept churchyard surrounded by trees.
