Holy Cross
Middlezoy, Somerset
12th century listed church with spectacular views across the Somerset levels.
The splendid tower can be seen for miles across the flat landscape that surrounds it.
Westonzoyland, Somerset
Built in the 15th century, it has four stages, the lowest plain apart from a large west window. The topmost stage is the most ornate and culminates in battlements with delicate Somerset tracery. The south porch, south transept and south aisle are also battlemented.
Inside, the church is tall, light and airy, and has a superb tie beam roof.
Winged angels catch the eye first, but the whole roof is full of wonderful carpentry. The south aisle roof is just as good.
The screen is modern, but reuses fragments of the original, and some of the bench ends are 15th century, as is the font, as is some of the glass in the chancel. All were gifts from the church's founder, Richard Bere, Abbot of Glastonbury.

Northmore Green, Somerset
Stawell, Somerset
The church stands at the centre of the village where modern houses occupy the sites of farmyards and are thus cheek by jowl with ancient farmhouses.
