Buxton Methodist Church plays an important role at the heart of our community, prominently located on Buxton Market Place, where it is often the first port of call for those seeking help in our community, for visitors to the town and new arrivals.

Buxton Methodist Church is identified as a landmark building in the Conservation Area Appraisal and as such is regarded as an undesignated heritage asset of some importance.
The main church building was built in 1849, in gritstone with pierced gable parapets and a steeply-pitched slate roof, and has been in almost continuous use as a place of worship ever since. The premises have been extended to the rear many times (in the 1870s, 1890s, 1930s, 1980s and 1990s) and there have been several phases of refurbishment, including a major modernisation of the worship space in the late 1960s, following the amalgamation of congregations from two churches onto one site.
The Vision 2000 project upon which the congregation embarked in the early 1980s involved totally re-roofing the main church, (architect: Donald Buttress). More recently, the solid timber, front doors have been replaced with glazed leaves incorporating pointed arch tracery and in 2017 access ramps with locally-made iron railings were constructed, symmetrically flanking the entrance steps.
In the 1990s, the continuing development of the whole premises resulted in considerably improved community facilities to the rear of the building. A new stair tower was constructed to access a first floor suite of rooms formed over the main hall, and the 1930s flat-roofed school rooms were refurbished to provide a commercial-grade kitchen and dividable lower meeting room.
