St Leodegarius
Basford, Nottinghamshire
Robert de Basford or de Ashby founded a Cistercian priory at Catesby in c1175 and endowed it partly with income from Basford, it is one of only four churches in England dedicated to St Leodegarius.
The church was built in 1855-56 as a chapel of ease to serve the miners of Thomas North’s colliery at Babbington.
Cinderhill, Nottinghamshire
The building was designed by Thomas Chambers Hine, one of the finest Victorian architects in the Midlands, and built by J Fisher in the Decorated Gothic style of the 14th century. This succeeded so well that the Illustrated London News called it ‘a perfect little gem of a building’.

The foundation stone of the church was laid in November 1934 and the church consecrated on 15th February 1936.
