The foundation slab of the church was laid in 1967. St Francis Church was dedicated on 19 May 1968 and was built to serve the needs of a fast-developing Duston. The main church building is cube-shaped, with a large glass dome sitting on it, which allows light into the church through the roof. Annexed to the main church building are various assembly rooms, a kitchen and a hall. All the roofs are flat and covered with a membrane. The wider community make use of the church building for a salsa class, Brownies, Guides, Rainbows, and the local art group also use the rooms. The grant was to help fund renewal of flat roofs which have leaked on and off for several years.
