Find a church

This was one of western Scotland's greatest abbeys when founded in 1163 and it still impresses today.

St Mirins church was founded in 1808: the current newer and bigger building was opened in 1932.

The current church was built by ED Rainey of Spilsby in 1838 and replaced an earlier church which had become derelict.

Paisley Central Hall was built in 1908.

A place of worship has stood on the site for 900 years although the present building, built of local greenstone, is mainly 14th century.

Occupying a prominent position at the crossroads to the town, one cannot fail to be impressed with St James church, with its memorial to the explorer Sir John Franklin, who was born in the town.

The chapel is a Grade 2 listed building with an unusual layout and houses exhibitions of local history and the story of nonconformity in Wales.

This fine example of the work of the distinguished Scottish church architect, Dr Peter MacGregor Chalmers, stands on the town's main street and was opened for worship in 1902.
