The Salvation Army commenced in Chelmsford in 1886!

This is a fragment of a very much larger priory church that was demolished at the Dissolution. It had been the Lady Chapel, and dates from about 1360.

The unique church of St Nicholas, just 15 yards from the shingle beach at Pett Level, was until 1935, the home of the Life Saving Rocket Launcher for the Coastguard.

Financed largely by the Ridgway family, the church occupies a prominent position overlooking Horwich and is a noted landmark in the area.
