St Lawrence's church is a grade I listed building, of late 12th century foundation, rebuilt late 13th after a raid by the Scots, restored 16th by Lady Anne Clifford, followed by two rounds of 19th century internal remodelling.

The present building was consecrated in 1623 having been built to the designs of Inigo Jones.

The Church of Scotland has been active in London since the time of James VI, King of Scots, who became King James I of England in 1603, the current building dates from 1909, but Crown Court Church has been on this site since 1719.

The great Inigo Jones designed this Italianate masterpiece, completed in 1663.

Standing just a few yards from the River Thames, this historic church has a history going back into the depths of the Dark Ages.

Thanks to the powerful Neville family this once humble Saxon church was altered and enlarged until it was completed at the end of the 14th century, which is the last time any major work was done on it.

In 1542 Henry VIII rebuilt the church already on this site to keep plague victims from being carried through his palace grounds because at the time it was an isolated spot in the fields.

The only remaining military chapel in London, The Guards Chapel was rebuilt in a beautifully spare style following almost total destruction by a flying bomb in 1944.

St Mary's was built in 1856, on the site of several earlier churches, by the Londonderry family who lived at nearby Wynyard Hall.
