This large estate church in the woods with a tall spire was built for the Second Marchioness of Ailesbury by TH Wyatt in 1861.

Visible from miles around that spire of St Mary’s nestles into the beautiful landscape of the Heart of the English Lake District.

Having started as a mission church in 1890, the current permanent church, designed by William Leah, was built in 1938.

We’re a church on a journey, in our 4th building in a little over 350 years.

The church dates from the 14th century and is a large, handsome structure consisting of three aisles, three chancels and a tower.
