Take the foot ferry to Iona and step off onto one of Scotland’s most sacred sites.

In the mid 19th century some of the congregation left their parish church in Kincraig, to hold their own services in the open air in Insh village.

The church stands on an exceptional site adjacent to a circular enclosure of considerable antiquity containing the ruins of the former church, St Bride’s

St Gwinear’s battlemented granite tower with its square stair turret can be accurately dated to 1441, when a bequest was made to build it.

Wendron parish church is a Grade I listed 15th century church restored in 1867-9.

Above the porch door is a chiro stone lozenge found on site in the 1860s which dates from 350-400AD, the Christian faith has been here for more than 1600 years!

St Elwyn is located next to the estuary of Hayle near to three miles of golden sand and it has an imposing presence above the town.

Built in 1862 the church has been sympathetically enhanced by each generation adding stained glass, the 1899 organ, ad 1923 electricity.

There is no record of first consecration but there is documentary evidence that in 1170 Thomas Beckett confirmed income to the Priory of Tywardreath.

This is one of Cornwall’s largest and architecturally most intriguing churches, retaining an open feel partly because the pews were removed altogether at one time and when replaced in the 1970s wide alleyways were left, as they would have been in medieval times, to allow for processions to pass easily.

Dating back to the 13th century, St Mawgan in Meneage, was one of two churches established in Cornwall by St Mawgan, a 6th century abbot bishop who travelled from Pembroke to Brittany.

Unusual in Cornwall, St Michael's church is a light and airy Georgian building, built to a design by the London architect Thomas Edwards, a pupil of Nicholas Hawksmoor.
