A lovely example of a lovingly cared for, historic rural parish church, in an exquisite village green setting, high on a ridge with views to Dartmoor and Exmoor.

A small and ancient downland church which is very much in the centre of the isolated and rural village of East Marden in the South Downs National Park.

St Augustine’s church dates from 1916 and is the only church in south east England designed by the great Victorian architect Temple Moore.

Approached by a narrow lane above a steep slope and surrounded by trees, Up Marden is perhaps the hardest to find of the downland churches.

An unusual church of flint masonry and Caen stone, it is located in the village of Forestside on the Stansted Estate which is a favourite for visitors exploring the area's tranquil forest trails.

This is a large and exciting church founded, like Sherborne in 705; a nunnery here was dissolved in the 11th century and a college of canons served the parish until the Dissolution.

This beautifully cared for church was largely rebuilt in 1566, and then remained virtually unchanged until the Georgian period.
