Visible from miles around that spire of St Mary’s nestles into the beautiful landscape of the Heart of the English Lake District.

There has been a place of worship in Goathland, on the North Yorkshire Moors, for at least eight centuries and the present building, which was completed in 1896.

All Saints is a much loved church and has been the centre of the community for hundreds of years, with origins in the late 13th century.

A magnificent setting among the dales at the upper end of Eskdale with the backdrop of Scafell Pike, St Catherine’s dates back to the 12th century.

The church dates back to 1130, it also has connections with Lewis Carroll.

Grade I listed building containing some fine stone carving in chancel and beautiful stained glass windows.

Nestling in the heart of the Langdale Valley, Holy Trinity is a fine example of a country Lakeland church and is home to the much admired Millennium Tapestry depicting the history of Langdale.

Sited in a scenic location in the Yorkshire Dales, with a view up the Stainmore pass through the high Pennines, it sits almost equidistant between the market towns of Barnard Castle and Richmond; at the heart of the community of Hutton Magna.

Set close to Bowes Castle and surrounded by trees the small, low church, dating from the 12th century is easy to miss, but is well worth a visit.

This church is well known because of its associations with the great Romantic poet William Wordsworth, who lived in nearby Dove Cottage and is buried in the churchyard.

Built 1150-1250, although of Saxon origin, which is associated with John Wyclif and contains more medieval stained glass than anywhere else in County Durham, with the exception of the Cathedral.
