Set in stunning Nithsdale countryside, Dunscore Church contains a new heritage centre telling the story of 800 years of Christianity in the parish and the life of Jane Haining, who wended her life in the Auschwitz extermination camp.

Beautifully updated ancient church.

This is a place to connect with the ancients and the elemental; a medieval pilgrimage chapel in a dramatic setting, perched on a cliff face above the Atlantic sea, approached down a flight of worn stone steps.

St Margaret's dates from 1250 and in years gone by its prominent position and high tower has made it a landmark for shipping in Bideford Bay.

In a high, coastal location and originally whitewashed, the church has been a beacon for pilgrims travelling from the east and west on the pilgrim way for at least 800 years and is still a sanctuary for visitors, walkers, cyclists and nature lovers enjoying the peace of the countryside.

What you see today is the second chapel on this site, in 1696 the congregation built ‘The Great Meeting House’ which served the congregation for 100 years.
