Holy Island, or Lindisfarne, is the site of a monastery founded by St Aidan in 635 AD. It marks the establishment of Christianity in the northeast and is still a centre of pilgrimage today.

This is one of Cornwall’s largest and architecturally most intriguing churches, retaining an open feel partly because the pews were removed altogether at one time and when replaced in the 1970s wide alleyways were left, as they would have been in medieval times, to allow for processions to pass easily.

Set in the grounds of Etal Manor, this church designed by William Butterfield was built 1856-58 by Lady Augusta FitzClarence as a burial place for her husband Lord Frederick, one of the illegitimate sons of King William IV.

As you approach the village, St Anne's is the tallest and most strking building; it has centuries of history, with connections to Strangford village and the Castle Ward Estate.
