St Wilfrid’s is a 13th century church in Early English style and has carvings from the 12th century.

Attractive 19th century church with 15th century tower, built in sandstone and placed prominently in attractive village.

On the outside, a fine medieval church with a broach spire and on the inside, a complete Victorian Gothic interior by GF Bodley with beautifully decorated ceilings throughout the church.

Aldingham church hugs the Cumbrian side of Morecambe Bay and is open to the wild beauty of the Bay, an area of designated county landscape importance and scenic beauty.

The core of the present church, one of the best surviving Anglo Saxon buildings in West Yorkshire, was built about 1200 years ago, and much remains of the tall narrow Saxon nave and tower.

The parish was created in 1883 from land formerly belonging to the parish of Gedling and the church itself was consecrated in 1885.

Built in 1958 by the architects Broadhead and Royle who wrote ‘the style stems from the early Christian columned halls of the 4th century but cannot be honestly placed in any historical style other than mid 20th century'.

St James’s dates from 1832 and, together with St John’s Tidbury Green and Christ the King in Widney Junior School, serves the Parish of Shirley.
