A large grand church set in the heart of this village positioned on a knoll.

The village of Balderton is mentioned in Domesday and there was possibly a church of Saxon origin although no trace of this has ever been found.

Possibly built around the 13th century, the church was founded as early as the 6th century and is a classic example of the situation of the typical early medieval Welsh church.

St Bridget's parish church was founded by Christian Vikings from Ireland, and people who visit today still encounter God's love in the beautiful, holy, peaceful building.

One of the finest medieval churches in the county well set above the village green, off the main road, and adjacent to the mainly 17th century manor house.

Dedicated to a saint with connections to King Arthur and a popular pilgrimage site during the Middle Ages, St Derfel's is famous for its 'fasting woman' and its medieval relic that has a connection to a grisly execution.

This long, low church, with its rather dumpy 13th century tower, is an unlikely but harmonious mix of styles.

Stainton was first recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as ‘Stantone with Helgebi’ (Hellaby).
