Built in an area that hosted the earliest human settlement in Ireland, the present church was consecrated in 1855, it retains its original features and is noted for its quality stonework, bell ringers chamber and fine stained glass windows.

The church stands as a testament to the faith and sacrifice of a community. The earliest war memorial for the area stands in the churchyard and inside the church there is a memorial to Group Captain Victor Beamish, the famous Battle of Britain Ace. There are other memorials to those who served in diverse ways, but the elegant charm of the building speaks most of peace within its walls.
