St Nicholas is a historic church which proudly stands at the very centre of the ancient Market Burgh of Lanark.
Lanark, Strathclyde
It’s history spans from the 12th century with the current building being erected in 1774. Along with magnificent and unique stained-glass windows dating back to the Victorian era. Many of our windows have been gifted or dedicated to loved ones, some who lost their lives during the great war, along with a stained-glass panel which previously came from the church in the UNESCO World heritage site of New Lanark.
The church tower houses one of the oldest bells in Europe dating from the 11th century. St Nicholas is also home to a 3 manual organ built by Foster & Andrews of Hull and installed in 1892 and is still used today.
The church is a great example of how history meets the present day with a church community who walk in the footsteps of those who have gone before them continuing the witness the love of God to its towns people.
