St Matthew
Boughton, Nottinghamshire
The present church is Victorian, built in the 1860s and dedicated in 1868, but it replaced a Norman church about which, unfortunately, very little is known.
Built in 1845 at the expense of the 4th Duke of Newcastle under Lyne, the church stands on high ground and looks down towards the main street of the village.

The present building is on the same site and is as near as possible to the design of an earlier church. Inside are tombs and memorials from that church, including a 14th century brass and the grave of Sir Charles Craufurd, a distinguished soldier at the time of the Napoleonic wars.
