St Adelwold’s is unusual as there are two churches situated within one churchyard.
Alvingham, Lincolnshire
The only church in the country dedicated to St Adelwold, it is sited on the foundations of a Saxon church. A solid and sturdy 13th century tower stands proud, inviting all to enter and learn more about these two unusual buildings.
The church sits alongside its neighbour church of St Mary’s, which formerly served North Cockerington and is now in the care of The Churches Conservations Trust. Both buildings stand in the former grounds of a 12th century Gilbertine priory.
