Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh
Two churches were originally planned and built, but in 1964 they merged using the original St Andrew's building, forming new St Andrew's and St George's.
The church was designed by Captain Andrew Frazer and Robert Kay, and was founded in 1781. In keeping with mid 18th century interests in the classical style it has an imposing Corinthian portico.
Step inside to see the elliptical design with shaped pews, unique in its time and a delight to this day, then look up to see the plaster ceiling designed in the style of Robert Adam.
The original Georgian glass no longer exists but there are two interesting modern stained glass windows, one by Alfred Webster (1913) and the other by Douglas Strachan (1934).
