Much Dewchurch, Herefordshire
The Grade I listed Norman church of St David’s is a typical Norman confection with square tower, typified by the shape of its arches. Its Victorian extension to the North transept was built in the high neo-gothic revival period. Inside is a memorial bas relief to the Biddulph family, lords of the manor.
It has a fascinating early 17th century sculpted wall monument depicting Walter Pye (Attorney General to James I), his wife and 13 children. In addition, there are four monuments to the Symons family, including an impressive one to Richard Harcourt Symons which Pevsner refers to as ‘a romantic conceit’.
