Inside the building there is a  font thought to date from the first stone church on the site during the time of Henry III and in the chancel the piscina and image niche and the carved and canopied triple sedilia survive indicating that this was a church of some importance, with seating for priest, deacon and sub deacon. The church was rebuilt during the reign of Henry VIII and again in 1843 by Gilbert Scott. In 2007 the church closed for refurbishment to enable considerable reordering and modernisation .
