Dedicated to St Lawrence, Archdeacon of Rome until 258. Founded in 1148 by Ralph, a Benedictine monk from the Abbey of Bec in Normandy. Rebuilt in 1816 from Bath stone brought along the Kennet and Avon canal. See the indulgence stone from 1325, The Breeches Bible from 1578, the apsidal east window from 1816, the magnificent organ from 1880 and the rare clapper gate in the churchyard.
