Whatcote is a tiny place at the junction of two Roman roads deep in rural Warwickshire.
Both the nave and chancel of St Lawrence's are 12th century, and the north porch protects the original, beautifully carved, Norman north doorway.
Oxhill, Warwickshire
The porch and the sturdy little tower were built in the 15th century. On the south side of the church is another beautiful Norman doorway. Above it is a row of strange carved heads.
Inside is a 12th century font with carvings of Adam and Eve in two of its 16 panels; the other 14 have trees, flowers and decorative patterns.
A gravestone in the churchyard commemorates Myrtilla 'negro slave to Mr Thos Beuchamp of Nevis. Buried Jan ye 6th 1705'.
