St Luke

There was mention of a church at Heage in 1545 when it was destroyed by a storm, sadly all that is left of this building is the east window.

Heage parish church has a most unusual T shaped layout. This view shows the older part of the church which forms the upright of the T and is aligned more or less east to west. The lintel over the porch doorway is inscribed JW 1752.

The church was originally built of wood, but was destroyed by a violent tempest in June 1545. Rebuilt in 1661, it was enlarged in 1836.

Trees make it impossible to show what this church really looks like. The chancel was rebuilt in 1646-1661 with a newer section added in 1826 resulting in the unusual T shaped layout of the building.
