St Margaret's was built in 1879 in the late Neo Gothic, or Perpendicular, style.

It is constructed in ashlar limestone and has broad east and west windows. The nave has a handsome open beam wooden roof, and a low arch with a wooden screen to the chancel.
Although Betjeman rather dismissively describes it in his guide as 'spa suburban', the church possesses many fine points, including a sumptuous carved reredos, a Burne-Jones stained glass window and a baptistery painting of the Madonna and Child with St Margaret and St John, by the well-known local artist Graeme Willson, dating from 2004.
