Welton le Wold, Lincolnshire
It offers beautiful views, a 14th century tower and an ancient font. The main part of the church is Victorian. There has been a church on the site since well before the Norman Conquest..
St Martin's is a perfect, picture postcard small English village church. It contains memorials to Rectors, Lord of the Manor and their families. It was extensively rebuilt in the 1850s by the then Rector (Rev. Hughes) but the 14th century Tower survives, as does the tomb of a pre reformation Rector (Thomas) in front of the altar. The font is ancient, but came from another church. It was acquired in Victorian times.
Tombstones dating from the 1700s and later can be seen in the graveyard, which offers beautiful views across Welton Vale. There are seats for the weary pilgrim to rest on!
Postcard-sized photos of the church are on sale inside, as is a short historical guide.
