Founded in c1103 the church of St Mary de Haura is listed by English Heritage as Grade I for its historial and architectural importance. It is Norman church built of Caen stone, containing a tall crossing tower with transepts to north and south, and a large aisled chancel to the east. It is a mixture of Romanesque and Transitional architecture. Naim and Pevsner in The Buildings of England: Sussex (1965) quote Edward Freeman's description of it as 'a parish church absolutely without a fellow in England!'

St Mary de Haura is situated in the centre of Shoreham by Sea and surrounded by a lovely, peaceful closed churchyard which provides a welcome and much used green space in the town. St Mary's is open every day of the year and we welcome visitors. We have regular guided tours and details can be found on our website. We take part in the annual Heritage Open Days with guided tours and visits to the ringing room.
