St Peter
Creeting St Peter, Suffolk
The people of Creeting St Peter have worshipped at this church for over 900 years.
East Anglia possesses an unparalleled gallery of woodcarving in its church roofs.
Earl Stonham, Suffolk
Every part of the structure bristles with ornamentation: foliage, animals, Green Men and many angels, some headless since they were attacked by the iconoclasts of the 17th century.
Other features include the well preserved Doom painting above the chancel arch, and the finely carved 17th century pulpit behind which are three hour glasses for timing sermons.
Externally, the church is a rather stern looking cruciform building, set on a windy hill with a handsome, solid looking tower. The fine clerestory, with flushwork panels, was built around 1460.
