Cortachy Church
Cortachy, Tayside
In a tranquil setting in a green glen and close to the rushing River Esk, Cortachy Church is close to the gates of the castle, to which it belongs.
This church is Scotland's only complete church by the highly respected architect Sir Ninian Comper.
Kirriemuir, Tayside
In St Mary's he delicately combines elements of Gothic, Arts and Crafts, and Scottish Revival style. The church's reddish exterior initially looks somewhat squat, with a relatively short bell tower, but closer inspection reveals a light touch.
The simple interior contains plain pews and a handsome red sandstone font.
Apart from one window by William Wilson, all the stained glass is by Comper. His signature strawberry can be found within the panels he designed. This was a tribute to his father, a Reverend who died suddenly in Duthie Park, Aberdeen, after buying some fresh strawberries.
JM Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, was born in the town and one of the windows is dedicated to his family.

This ancient church has many unusual features. Perhaps most intriguing is the rare, 11th century conical tower.
