Kildrum Parish Church
Cumbernauld, Strathclyde
Regarded as being amongst the most notable post war churches in the UK.
This is one of only four churches by architects Gillespie, Kidd & Coia and is in their trademark red brick inside and out.
Kilsyth, Strathclyde
The building appears almost monolithic with some exterior walls interrupted by full height vertical glazing of varying widths. From certain angles the bowed roof appears to float above the structure, as it sits above small windows.
The inner space is simply huge and feels almost minimalist in design, the broad wood clad ceiling is supported by hidden steel beams leaving the entire floor space free from obstructions.
Angular 'light chimneys' set into the east wall reflect light into the interior from angled surfaces. They contribute greatly to the modern feel of the church, along with arched clerestory windows and a large window in the west wall.
