Linlithgow, Lothian
This tiny Episopal church was built in a Byzantine basilica design and was constructed in 1928 as a memorial to George Walpole, Bishop of Edinburgh, and his wife Mildred.
Typical of the basilica design, it has a high central dome and half dome over the apse. The interior is light and cool, with a window over the altar with three lights.
The stained glass shows the work of women in the church, with images of St Margaret of Hungary and St Mildred. Originally, the congregation had been known as St Peter's, but Bishop Walpole dictated that the new church be dedicated to St Mildred. At the church's 50th anniversary, long after the death of the bishop and his wife, the church was renamed St Peter's.
