St Peter
Aldwincle, Northamptonshire
St Peter's is legitimately another claimant for the title 'best Northamptonshire steeple'.
A splendid perpendicular church which was largely built by the Greene family of nearby Drayton, this was a remarkable achievement given that England was subject to the Wars of the Roses during a large part of this period.
Lowick, Northamptonshire
The architecture is particularly good, especially the exterior, also the contemporary monuments and the remaining stained glass.
The tombs in the church lie in two distinct areas, in a chapel on the south side and another to the north of the high altar. All the tombs are to the owners of Drayton, beginning with the Greenes, then the Mordaunts, then the Germaines and finally the Sackvilles. The only exception to this is that of the Earl of Wiltshire, but he was the main Greene heir in the late 15th century.
