St Cuthbert
Halsall, Lancashire
A medieval 700 year old parish church containing decorated and perpendicular styles and much pre Reformation fabric.
It is unusual enough to see a church with both a tower and a steeple (there are only three in England) but this church is unique in having them placed at the same end.
Ormskirk, Lancashire
In keeping with this oddity, the church is a mixture of styles, spanning many centuries.
Despite extensive renovations, there are many interesting features, including a Norman window (the oldest part of the building), a 17th century font and many references to the Derby family, who are patrons of the church.
The Derby Chapel contains 15th and 16th century effigies, one being of Margaret Beaufort (d1509), mother of King Henry VII.
