One aspect that makes it a connoisseur's church is the fact that the building itself and many of its rich contents all date from the 15th century.

The sheer scale of such a church in what is a remote rural setting appears baffling. But it is a 'wool' church', built by people who had become immensely rich from the woollen cloth trade at a time when it was customary to reflect your earthly wealth in celebrating God by investing in his House.

The most obvious sign of the money poured into the building is that it is entirely built of imported Barnack stone, rather than making use of abundant local flint.

The coats of arms of those benefactors are over the west door, along with two famous feathered angels.

The interior is spacious with a long nave, generous transepts and a large chancel. Over each of these parts of the church are wonderful wooden roofs, culminating in the chancel with its throngs of angels and bosses that depict the life of Christ.

Salle has Norfolk's finest seven sacrament font, with its scenes intact, and fine detail such as angels below each scene holding the symbol relevant to that scene. The font cover is an impressive piece of architecture in itself, suspended from an immense beam.
