Haywards Heath, Sussex
Visitors are welcome to attend services, or to visit and enjoy the tranquillity and peace of the church.
On entering the church, you can’t help but be pleasantly surprised at the contrasting styles and unusual architecture. The church has a Scandinavian style with Art Deco elements and is built of concrete which is unusual in British churches. There is a striking tall crucifix on the wall above the altar, carved from black wood situated on a copper cross. The church has a number of stained glass windows situated around the church. There are places for visitors to light a candle or pray and carved wooden 'stations of the cross' can be seen around the north and south walls. The church has oak pews, pulpit and altar rails along with a stone font created to fit the font cover from the original old tin church. There is also an intricately carved eagle’s head lectern commemorating the end of the First World War. In 1897 worship began in a temporary church structure known as the ‘tin tabernacle’ and in 1937 the current church building was commissioned.
Further details on the history of the church can be found on the church website.
