St Saviour’s is a typical Reformed Chapel with clear windows.
Jean De Garis, who was the father of Jurat Jean De Garis was the founding father of this Church and started this fellowship in 1800 and 17 years later this chapel was built. English services were only introduced in 1975.
This Église indépendante as it was known, later became part of the Congregational Union and in 1972 with the amalgamation of the Presbyterian Church of England and the Congregational Church, formed the United Reformed Church, we became the St Saviours URC, and here we are, 200 years later, still worshipping our Glorious God. There is a central pulpit with original pews and features.
It is in the Grande Rue at Perelle, a bay used by the local fisherman. Nearby is the tiny 14th century chapel of St Appoline, the National Trust (Catioroc) headland with the Trepied Dolmen, and the Reservoir Walk, with Lihou Island not much further away. There is a bus service into the town of St Peter Port, a coastal bus, a general store with petrol pumps, hairdresser and butcher’s shop.
Before and after worship you will hear Guernsey Patois spoken by many of the congregation. The church is in a very rural parish.
