St Wynwallow, in the parish of Landewednack, is the most southerly in mainland Britain and is thought to have been founded around 600AD. Landewednack probably means ‘the Lan (sacred enclosure) of St Wennec.

Wynwallow was a well known Breton saint whose parents emigrated to Brittany from somewhere in southwest Britain around the late 5th or early 6th century. He was born in Brittany and later founded there the important abbey of Landevennec.

The church is just a short walk from the cliff path and is often visited by walkers and their four legged friends. There are many interesting features in the church, including our beautiful serpentine (unique rock found at The Lizard) pulpit and lectern.
