All Saints

This wayside church has a pretty setting on a light rise within the village of Great Glemham.

The building is built of flint, with imported stone for the corners and windows. The west door at the base of the tower is now entry to the lavatory. On the north side of the tower is a one handed clock (the hour hand) and was made in 1770 by James Smyth of Woodbridge. Small corbel faces are either side of the north door.

Medieval glass fragments are set in the side windows of the chancel. The church roof over the aisle shows its original 15th century timber framework with wooden angels at the bases of the wall posts. There are 24 lovely carved bosses with flowers, foliage and five faces peering out - some with their tongues protruding.

The greatest treasure is the seven sacrament font which is a masterpiece of the 15th century stonemasons art; sadly defaced in places but still beautiful.

Their are two windows containing early 20th century stained glass, one above the altar and one in the east window of the south aisle was made by Powell of Whitefriars and thought to be of a pattern designed by Henry Holiday. In the North West corner is housed the Great Glemham Archive which is run independently of the church. The birth, death and marriage registers are permanently available for perusal.
