The church is the oldest of the Saddleworth chapels still in use today and was consecrated by the Right Reverend Beilby Porteus DD, Bishop of Chester in 1787. It was built by the village to minister to a local community whose prosperity was founded on a thriving woollen industry and stands as a building of great significance in the village.

An Italianate tower with clock was added in 1844. The stained glass windows are by the world-renowned Heaton, Butler and Bayne. There is a gallery with original box pews and a reredos containing the Ten Commandments and The Lord’s Prayer.

Following substantial restoration between 2003 and 2007 our church provides a beautiful setting for important occasions such as marriages and baptisms, as well as other principal church festivals. It offers a reflective and peaceful location in which to say farewell to family or friends during funeral services.

Our church is a superb auditorium for concerts with outstanding acoustics. We hold several concerts throughout the year. At the west end of the church is the narthex which is used for private bookings on a frequent and regular basis. It includes a well-ordered kitchen together with toilets, washbasins, and baby-changing facilities which are all accessible.

Our well established group for young people has consistent attendance and is well supported by parents and carers. We also have strong links with our village Voluntary Controlled school with representation from clergy, parochial church council, and congregation on the governing body.

We support a number of national and international charities which include Christian Aid, The Children’s Society, Mercy Ships and Water Aid. In addition, we support other local based charities such as the Booth Centre, Dr Kershaw’s Hospice, Francis House Children’s Hospice, Oldham Food Bank, and Oldham Mountain Rescue Team.
