The land on which the church was built was feued on 3rd July 1841 by John Kyle on behalf of the Wesleyan Society from the Patrons of Cowane’s Hospital, one of the principal landowners in the burgh of Stirling. A commitment was made to construct a church within four years. The church is set back and elevated slightly from the street level, the site backing into the steep crags of the Castle Rock. There is a small area of curtilage around the church which is enclosed at the sides by garden walls to the adjacent houses and a retailing wall build against the steep land to the rear. The front of the church is enclosed by a low retaining wall and traditional iron railings with two gated entrances. Two traditional gas lanterns dating to 1877 remain (refurbished in 1984 including renewal of wiring and glass).
