This pretty church church stands on a hill overlooking idyllic countryside.
With a founding date of 1343, Marton's church just pips Lower Peover to the post to make it possibly the oldest timber framed church of its kind in Europe.
Marton, Cheshire
The outside is lovely. Weathered upright and horizontal timbers and cottagey windows stand out against the white walls, while over all is a shingled tower and spire.
The inside, apart from some Victorian restoration and modern pews, is essentially still as it was in the 14th century, with large wooden piers supporting the timbered roof, and all lit by the rows of little windows.
