This is the only church anywhere dedicated to St Meubred. It has one of the best churchyard crosses in the country, 9th century with knot work scrolls, ring chain and plait work. You can also find our fascinating carved medieval bench ends.
Cardinham, Cornwall
You may think this quiet rural grade I listed church is unchanged since medieval times. In fact to build the current Tudor church at least one previous church was torn down and the stone reused in the new building. You can see reused stone with a dedication to St Meubred in the sedilia on the south side of the chancel.
Our wonderful 9th century cross was also found embedded in this church building. In 1942 a German bomb damaged the chancel windows. The very high quality replacements are by Christopher Webb.
In the north aisle don't miss the letter from Charles I to loyal parishes written in 1643 and the altar rail in the chancel in memory of the May brothers, sons of the rector both killed in WWI. Also the magnificent Glynn monuments in the south aisle.
